BLOCKS: Embed Block

Embed Block

The Embed Block can be used to embed documents, videos, and interactive media directly on a Dashboard, Portal Page, or Public Page using embed code generated by a third-party website. Unlike the iFrame Block which uses a URL, the Embed Block accepts raw embed code, making it ideal for content from platforms that provide their own embed snippets.

What This Block Is Used For

Use this block whenever you have embed code from a third-party platform that you want to display inline within your page. It works well for a wide range of media and interactive content types.

  • Embed a video player from a platform such as YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia using their generated embed code
  • Display an interactive document, presentation, or PDF viewer from services such as Google Docs or Scribd
  • Embed a form, survey, or poll from a third-party tool directly within your portal page
  • Display interactive widgets, calendars, or maps that provide embed code for integration
  • Integrate social media posts or feeds that supply embeddable HTML snippets

How to Add This Block

1. Open the Content Block Editor on the page or portal you wish to edit.

2. Click the Add Block (+) button to open the block selection menu.

3. Select Embed Block from the list.

Once added, the block will appear so you can apply your block options. Alternatively, you can click the pencil (edit) icon in the block toolbar to open the block options at any time.

How to Configure the Block

After clicking the edit icon, the Embed Options modal will appear with three submenus: General, Style, and Access.

Embed Code: Paste the embed code provided by the third-party website directly into this field. Embed code is the HTMLsnippet generated by an external platform specifically for embedding their content on other websites. You can typically find this code on the platform by looking for a Share or Embed option on the content you wish to display.

Alignment: Align the embedded content to the centre, left, or right of the block.

TIP: Embed code typically already contains width and height values set by the third-party platform. If the embedded content appears too large or too small, you can edit the width and height values directly within the embed code before pasting it into the field.

IMPORTANT: Only paste embed code from trusted third-party sources. Embed code executes directly on your page, so it is important to ensure the source is reputable and the code has not been modified by an unknown party before pasting it into this field.

You can save your general settings and then go to the Styling and Access menu items to further customize your block.

Styling

The Styling tab will enable you Customize the visual appearance of your block.

Access

You can enable all targets with access to the page to view the Embed Block. Alternatively, you can use the Access sub-menu to customize visibility, allowing only specific targets to see the embedded content.

What Users Will See

Visitors on the published page or portal will see the embedded content rendered directly within the page layout, exactly as the third-party platform intends it to appear.

  • A video player, document viewer, or interactive widget displayed inline within the page.
  • Content that is fully functional, including playback controls, interactive elements, and navigation where applicable.
  • Content aligned according to your block settings.

Best Practices

The Embed Block is a flexible tool, and a few simple habits will ensure your embedded content always displays correctly and securely.

  • Always copy embed code directly from the official Share or Embed option on the third-party platform to ensure the code is clean and up to date.
  • Test the embedded content on your page before publishing to confirm it displays and functions as expected.
  • If you need to display a URL rather than embed code, use the iFrame Block instead, as it is designed for URL-based embedding.
  • Use the Access Options tab to restrict visibility of the Embed Block to specific roles or users if the embedded content is sensitive or intended for a particular audience only,
  • Check that the third-party platform allows their content to be embedded on external sites, as some platforms restrict embedding by default.

TIP: The Embed Block works especially well for displaying video content from platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo directly within a Client portal. Use it on onboarding pages, training portals, or resource hubs to keep all content in one place without requiring Clients to navigate to an external site.
