BLOCKS: Video Block

Video Block

The Video Block can be used to embed videos directly on a Dashboard, Portal Page, or Public Page. It supports three video sources: YouTube, Vimeo, and Self Hosted video files, giving you the flexibility to display video content from external platforms or from files uploaded directly.

What This Block Is Used For

Use this block whenever you want to display video content inline within your page layout. It works well for a wide range of use cases across both internal and Client-facing pages.

  • Embed a YouTube or Vimeo video on a portal page or dashboard without requiring users to navigate to an external site.
  • Host and display your own video files directly using the Self Hosted option.
  • Display onboarding or training videos for new Clients or Staff members.
  • Share product demonstrations, tutorials, or welcome messages within a Client portal.
  • Display a video from a URL stored in a Custom Field, so each Target sees their own personalised video content.

How to Add This Block

1. Open the Content Block Editor on the page or portal you wish to edit.

2. Click the Add Block (+) button to open the block selection menu.

3. Select Video Block from the list.

Once added, the block will appear in your layout ready for you to add your video options. Alternatively, you can click the pencil (edit) icon in the block toolbar to edit the block options.

How to Configure the Block

The Video Options modal will appear with three tabs: Block Options, Style Options, and Access Options.

Video Source

Select where the video will be sourced from. There are three options available:

  • YouTube: Embed a video hosted on YouTube using a direct URL or a Custom Field URL.
  • Vimeo:Embed a video hosted on Vimeo using a direct URL or a Custom Field URL.
  • Self Hosted: Upload a video file directly or select one from your Media Library. A free storage tier is available to all Members, with additional storage and streaming minutes available on higher tier plans through the Hosted Video Subscription Service.

Source Type (YouTube and Vimeo only)

For YouTube and Vimeo videos, choose between two source options:

  • URL: Paste the direct link to the video into the URL field.
  • Custom Field URL: Select a URL Custom Field from the dropdown menu. The video displayed will be pulled from the URL stored in that Custom Field for each Target, enabling personalised video content per user. Custom Fields must be created before they can be selected here.

Self Hosted Options

When using the Self Hosted source, additional playback options are available:

Upload File: You can upload directly to the block.

Media Library: You can add a file that is already in your account.

  • Autoplay — Toggle ON to begin playing the video automatically when the page loads.
  • Mute — Toggle ON to start the video in a muted state.
  • Loop — Toggle ON to replay the video continuously once it has finished.
  • Progress Control — Toggle ON or OFF to show or hide the video progress bar.

Full Screen: Toggle to ON to allow the video to be played in full screen mode.

Full Width: Toggle to ON for the video to automatically expand to the full width of the block. To set dimensions manually, leave this toggle OFF and enter values in the Width and Height fields.

Width and Height: Enter size values in pixels or as a percentage. For example, enter 200 for 200px or 90% for a percentage-based size. Leave these fields empty to use the original size of the video.

Alignment: Align the video to the centre, left, or right of the block.

TIP: When using the Custom Field URL source type with YouTube or Vimeo, each Target will see the video from the URL stored in their own Custom Field. This makes it easy to deliver personalised video content to individual Clients or Staff members without building separate pages.

What Users Will See

Visitors on the published page or portal will see the video player displayed directly within the page layout, ready to play without needing to navigate to an external site.

  • A video player embedded inline within the page at the size and alignment you have configured.
  • Playback controls appropriate to the video source, including play, pause, volume, and full screen where enabled.
  • For Self Hosted videos, additional controls such as autoplay, mute, loop, and progress bar visibility based on your settings.
  • Personalised video content for each Target if the Custom Field URL source type has been used.

Best Practices

A few simple habits will ensure your video content always displays correctly and provides a great experience for your users.

  • Always test your video on the published page before sharing it with Clients or Staff to confirm it plays correctly and at the right size.
  • Use the Full Width toggle for videos that should span the full column, particularly on welcome pages or training portals where video is the primary content.
  • Use the Self Hosted option when you want full control over your video content and do not want users to see related videos or platform branding from YouTube or Vimeo.
  • Enable Mute and Autoplay together when using a short background or hero video, as most browsers require videos to be muted before they will autoplay.
  • Use the Custom Field URL source type to deliver personalised video messages or training content to individual Contacts without duplicating pages.
  • Use the Access Options tab to restrict video visibility to specific roles or users where appropriate.

TIP: The Video Block works especially well on Client onboarding portals. Use it to display a personalised welcome video, a product walkthrough, or a tutorial directly on the portal page your Clients see when they first log in, giving them everything they need in one place.

IMPORTANTFor Self Hosted videos, a free storage and streaming tier is available to all Members. If you are not a member or if you require additional storage capacity or streaming minutes beyond the free tier, these are available on higher tier plans through the Hosted Video Subscription Service.
